Are You a Good Listener?

Are you a good listener?

The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t said. ~Peter Drucker

Understanding what is being said in a conversation isn’t just about listening to the words being spoken. It’s important to pay attention to how something is said and the non-verbal messages sent through their tone of voice, facial expression, gestures and body language. Communication isn’t about how much you say, it’s about whether each person grasps the other person’s perspective.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Yes, we can!

It has been asserted that communication is “the response you get”, meaning that you have communicated clearly only when the person on the other end understands what you intended to communicate. How many times though have you felt frustrated by the other person “not getting it”?

True growth in communication happens when you take responsibility for the response you get. As you learn in the Basic Seminar, the four primary behavior styles all have different ways of communicating. If you only communicated one way, you’d be misunderstood by 75% of people!

An easy way to communicate more effectively is to understand the other person’s behavior style and tailor your communication accordingly. The Behavior Matrix exercise in the Basic Seminar explores the behavioral styles in depth and reveals easy ways to get the response you want when communicating.
